Join SnapMagic as a Lead Software Engineer to build the future of electronics design. Build the Github of hardware design, lead AI integration, and grow with a fast-paced, AI-powered startup!
Job description
At SnapMagic, we’re on a mission to transform how electrical engineers design hardware with AI. As the Lead Software Engineer on our core platform, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the future of electronics design. We help 1.5 million engineers build products like drones, electric cars, and virtual reality headsets 10x faster, and our platform is growing rapidly.
In this role, you will:
- Launch and Improve: Work across the entire stack (PostgreSQL, Python, Django, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS) to scale our platform, ship new features, improve existing workflows, and design and integrate AI-driven tools.
- Build the GitHub for Hardware Design: Improve and optimize search functionality, enhance our recommendation engine, drive user engagement, and focus on delivering an exceptional user experience. Lead efforts to improve efficiency and develop a platform that engineers love.
- Make Key Design Decisions: You'll have the autonomy to make important architectural decisions, driving the platform's technical direction as we grow. We ship quickly and iterate fast!
- Collaborate and Lead: Work with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and AI, while mentoring other engineers.
- Recruit and Build a Team: We are growing quickly, you’ll help recruit and build a top-tier software team you get to work with.
- AI Integration: Lead efforts to integrate our Gen AI-powered Copilot into the platform, enabling engineers to design hardware faster and smarter.
This isn’t just an engineering management role, we're looking for people who love coding and want to ship prolific features. We are looking for driven ICs who want to make independent design decisions, and take on leadership and ownership over the platform as we scale. We’re looking for someone eager to grow with us as we expand our team and capabilities.
Job Highlights:
- Impactful Work: Your code will be used by millions of engineers worldwide, directly influencing the way electronic hardware is designed.
- Leadership Opportunity: Be a key decision-maker and help grow our platform while building out a superstar engineering team.
- Growth: Work at a fast growing startup with product market fit and rapid growth (revenue, employee, and user growth).
- Perks: Competitive salary, equity, and bonuses as we scale rapidly after our recent funding round backed by Y Combinator, Google’s Chief Scientist Jeff Dean, and GitHub founder Tom Preston-Werner.
- Cutting-Edge Tech: Work with AI, hardware datasets, and circuit board design tools that are transforming a trillion-dollar industry.
- Flexible Work: Hybrid work environment (Hybrid in Bay Area) with a collaborative, fast-paced startup culture.
Job requirements
- Full-Stack Experience: 5+ years of full-stack software engineering, with a focus on high-throughput web applications (ideally with Django or modern frameworks). Comfortable with backend (PostgreSQL, Python/Django) and solid frontend skills (JavaScript, HTML, CSS).
- Track Record: Proven ability to design and build scalable, maintainable systems.
- Leadership: Experience influencing technical direction and mentoring engineers.
- Pragmatic Approach: You write clean, efficient code but prioritize shipping quickly and iterating fast.
- Team Player: You enjoy collaborating across teams and are excited about helping to recruit top talent.
- Hybrid in the Bay Area: You’re available to work 3 days a week in our Bay Area office.
- AI Enthusiast: Familiarity with AI integration and excited to work at the intersection of AI and hardware.
- Electrical Engineering/Circuit Design Knowledge: Experience with electronics or CAD tools is a huge bonus.
- 2+ Years in Senior Roles: You’ve made key architecture decisions and led teams.
- Experience with Angular or Modern Frameworks: Django, React, Vue, Ember, or Electron.js experience.
- Founding Engineer: You’ve been a founding or early engineer at a startup, taking ownership of the product.
- User-Focused: You prioritize delivering great user experiences, not just technical solutions.
